(Bonus) King Buffalo - Dead Star

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Selected because the album has that early 2000s 'edgy middle aged dad' aesthetic and no other reason.

After listening to the excellent Orion I wanted to like this one as much… I mean look at that album cover! Its like walking into Spencers Gifts when you're 15 all over again. I wont go track by track like I did for Orion since this one is a bonus review, this album has two really high points: 'Echo of a Waning Star' has some killer guitar hooks and chaotic drum beats that I really liked and "Eta Carinae" which is my favorite on this album as it has a pretty excellent Black Sabbath feel to it. "Dead Star" opens with some solid acoustic hooks but when the big drop comes in it couldnt grab me like the similar 'Down From Sky' on Orion. Red Star 2 (Radio Edit) has some shredding guitar solos but maaaaaannnnn... I wanted it to go somewhere and it never got there for me.

I think you are supposed to be ‘doing weed’ while you listen to this one. Guys, I just don’t have the time… maybe when the kids move out one day I’ll do ‘fat drugs’ but it just seems like a big commitment according to all of the DARE warnings I received growing up. I listen to Dark Side of the Moon while sipping beer like a respectable middle-aged person and I like my King Buffalo to be weird but not this weird… maybe Ill throw some more Stoner Rock albums on my list and revisit this one again later in the year…

Nothing inherently 'bad' on this album but none of the tracks are ones I would go back to where as I played 'Orion' 4 or 5 times this week.
